Types of Roads
The HarperRide is run over fairly well-maintained roads. While there are some bumpy sections and a few large potholes, road construction in recent years has further improved conditions. The ride is mainly completed over lightly traveled secondary roads, though the number of cars driving down Ela at 8.30 AM on a Saturday is many times greater than it was fifteen years ago.

How hard are the hills?
Compare the HarperRide to the hills of Flanders.

The Route-The Details

- Central Road Rollers
Along I-90, Central Road rolls up and down--a great warm-up on a chilly morning

- Payton's House
Just before the right turn on to Revere Drive, the route passes the home of the late, great Chicago Bear, Walter Payton. Since late 2004, the home has undergone major construction to the grounds. The ride up Revere Drive includes a false flat that is often the first section during which the pace "opens up".

- Penny Road
A long drag of gaps opening... The first section of "popping" riders

- Meadow Hill Climb
While it's not the Bosberg or the Oude Kwaremont, the turn off of County Line Road on to Meadow Hill includes a short steep climb.

- Haeger's Bend - Algonquin River Road Turn
A fast, blind, downhill, and off-camber turn that leads up the first "hill"--Be careful!

-"The Hills"
Two short climbs, followed by a false flat, a swooping descent, more false flat, and finally, the StairStep, a challenging short climb that see riders run out of gas prior to the summit

-The Finish
Stay on the right side of the yellow line heading down Ela Road toward the finish, which is marked with a blue Hoffman Estates village limit sign
